DID YOU KNOW?

· Did you know x-ray machines and metal detectors are used to control what is allowed to pass through an airport security perimeter?
· Did you know a lot of security guards are part-timers who need a second income?
· Did you know that Massachusetts doesn’t regulate the hiring of security guards?
· Did you all security guard applicants must complete a total of 40 hours of training instead of the 3 hours formerly required?
· Did you know that in most countries, you have to have a security license before you can get started?
· Did you know that you may at any time ask a security guard or private investigator for identification, which they must produce, demonstrating they are licensed under this act?
· Did you know that in the 2008-09 budgets, the government provided increased funding for eleven police officers who will work in the Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) to protect Saskatchewan children from sexual exploitation over the Internet?
· Did you know it is illegal for security guards to wear uniforms that resemble real police officers?

My Essential Question

How has school security changed since Columbine?

Thursday, January 22, 2009

My topic idea

My graduation project is about the 1999 Columbine school shooting and how it changed school security. Part of my interest in school security comes from the security guards at City High. Spending time with the security guards has made me interested in possibly becoming a security guard. I hope this project will help me learn more about the changing role of school security guards.
